Can perlite replace hydrophobic perlite?

I believe many building friends will encounter the problem of purchasing hydrophobic perlite, but hydrophobic perlite should be more expensive. Can you afford it? Did you replace it with ordinary perlite?

Today, I will give you an analysis. Perlite is a kind of inorganic porous thermal insulation material, which has a high water absorption rate. I did an experiment. When 10 kg perlite fell into the pool to absorb water, its weight can reach about 70 kg, and it basically absorbs nearly 10 times of water. You can imagine how much perlite can absorb water!

As we all know, as a thermal insulation material, once perlite absorbs water, it will no longer have any thermal insulation effect. So as a thermal insulation material, ordinary perlite is not suitable as a thermal insulation material, to use as a thermal insulation material, perlite must be made waterproof.

I also met many friends with ordinary perlite to do roof insulation, later also appeared the phenomenon of roof seepage. Later, it was not worth the loss.

It is suggested that ordinary perlite should not be used to replace hydrophobic perlite. If the cost of hydrophobic perlite is high and you can't accept it, then you should handle the construction well.
