Vitrified microsphere is a new type of inorganic lightweight aggregate and thermal insulation material. It is produced by crushing, dehydration (crystal water), vaporization expansion, melting and vitrification of acidic glassy volcanic rocks (such as perlite, biotite and turpentine) containing crystal water. Its particles are irregular spherical, its interior is porous cavity structure, and its outer surface is closed and smooth. It has excellent properties such as light weight, heat insulation, fire prevention, high temperature resistance, aging resistance, low water absorption and so on. It can be widely used in building materials, chemical industry, metallurgy, light industry and many other fields.

Glass beads can be used as lightweight aggregate in dry mixed mortar, which avoids the defects of traditional lightweight aggregate and is more suitable for lightweight mortar and plastering materials. The application of vitrified microsphere in light mortar and plastering material shows superiority. Vitrified microsphere has irregular spherical structure (related to the particle size of mineral sand), its shell is closed, but it also has microporous structure. On the one hand, the closed shell can prevent the mixing water from entering the lightweight material; on the other hand, the unique microporous structure can make the gas pass through the lightweight material, so as to ensure the air permeability of the mortar and plastering material made of the lightweight material, and prevent large water absorption area. It also has the advantage that air (gas or CO) can easily enter the mortar and plastering materials through the aggregate, so it can achieve rapid hardening and drying of materials. In addition, glass beads can also be used in lightweight concrete to replace foaming agent and traditional lightweight aggregate to realize lightweight, heat insulation and fire prevention of concrete.
